IMO: Okorocha arrested for unsealing seized hotels, to be arraigned today – Govt

SOME operatives of the  State police command have arrested a former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha.

The arrest came on the heels of the  former governor’s decision to unseal the Royal Spring Palm Hotels and Apartments situated along Akachi road, Owerri.

The Commissioner for lands in the state, Enyinnaya Onuegbu, had on Friday led a team of government officials and police officers to seal the property.

But the ex-governor who now represents Imo West at the Senate had gone to the estate with his supporters, policemen, soldiers and personnel of National Security and Civil Defence Corps and ordered the unsealing of the estate which allegedly belongs to his wife, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha.

It was learnt that the former governor personally drove away a pick-up truck that was used to block the entrance of the estate’s gate.

However, no sooner had he forcefully gained access to the estate than masked security operatives bombarded the place and whisked him away.

Also arrested were Ijeoma Igboanusi and Lasbrey Okafor-Anyanwu.

Igboanusi was the deputy chief of staff (Domestics) while Okafor-Anyanwu was the Commissioner for Transportation in Okorocha’s government.

Confirming the incident, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said Okorocha will be arraigned today (Monday).

There has been no love lost between Okorocha and his successor, Hope Uzodinma since the latter took the reins of power from his predecessor.

Last week, the Uzodinma administration recovered and renamed the Eastern Palm University which was founded by Okorocha.The Imo State government also sacked 108 oil workers employed by Okorocha in his tenure.

According to the state government, the workers were “illegally employed”
