BENUE: Buhari orders open, transparent probe into attack on Ortom

PRESIDENT Buhari has ordered an open and transparent investigation into the attempted assassination of Governor Samuel Ortom by gunmen suspected to be bandits over the weekend.

Buhari also condemned what he described as “string of brutal attacks on individuals and communities” in Benue, adding that the development is “unacceptable.”

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled, “President Buhari condemns attack on Governor Samuel Ortom. orders thorough, transparent investigation,” President Buhari “welcomes the dispatch of a high level team of crack investigators to the state from the Police headquarters in Abuja. He urged the officers to uncover who, or whatsoever, was behind the attacks and bring them to justice.”

While expressing his sympathies to Governor Ortom and all Benue indigenes, Buhari said the unfortunate incident should not be politicised, noting, “that an attack on one Nigerian is an attack on all Nigerians.”

“Let there be open and transparent investigation and whoever is linked to it should be caught and be made to face the law,” the President directed.
