Aguero joins Barcelona, gets €100m release clause

BARCELONA have secured the signing of Sergio Aguero after the striker played his last match for Manchester City on Saturday.

The Argentina star, who will celebrate his 33rd birthday on Wednesday, is arriving at Camp Nou as a free agent, two days after coming on as a late substitute in Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League final defeat to Chelsea.

“FC Barcelona and Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero have reached an agreement for the player to join the Club from 1 July when his contract with Manchester City expires,” the Spanish club announced on Monday.

“The player will sign a contract until the end of the 2022/23 season and his buy out clause is set at 100 million euros.”

Aguero will be formally unveiled later on Monday.

The striker spent 10 seasons at Manchester City, making 390 appearances, scoring 260 goals and making 74 assists.

He is City’s all-time top scorer and won 12 trophies at the club: five Premier League titles, one FA Cup and six League Cups.

He previously played for Indepediente in Argentina and Atletico Madrid before joining City in 2011.
