SPAIN picked up their first win at Euro 2020 in ruthless style on Wednesday, thrashing Slovakia 5-0 to advance as Group E runners-up and set up a clash with Croatia in the round of 16.
Martin Dubravka scored a comical own goal to give Spain the lead in Seville before Aymeric Laporte, Pablo Sarabia and Ferran Torres sealed the emphatic victory, the biggest of the tournament so far.
Slovakia goalkeeper Dybravska saved a penalty
from Alvaro Morata in the early stages, but he undid the good work when he inexplicably punched the ball into his own net after Sarabia’s effort hit the crossbar and looped into the air in the 30th minute.
Juraj Kucka completed the thrashing for Spain with another own goal as Slovakia headed home.
In the other Group E clash on Wednesday, Sweden defeated Poland 3-2 to win the group.
Substitute Viktor Claesson netted the winner three minutes into added time after Poland had come back from 2-0 down to pull
level.
Emil Forsberg gave Sweden an early lead in the second minute and doubled their advantage before Robert Lewandowski responded to give Poland hope in St Petersburg.
Bayern Munich striker Lewandowski struck the equaliser in the 84th minute and Poland needed one more goal to qualify for the round of 16.
They poured forward in search of the winning goal and Sweden took advantage as Claeson scored from a breakaway to send the Poles crashing out.
