THE Senate, during the constitution amendment plenary session today, turned down the clause providing immunity for National Assembly presiding officers.
The decision was taken during the constitution review by the lawmakers.
The Bill seeks to alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Expand Immunity to the Legislative and Judicial Arms of Government; and for Related Matters.
The Bill sought to confer immunity on the heads of the two Chambers and thier deputies from prosecution.
While making this decision, 29 Senators voted in support while 59 voted against.
Also, the clause to grant life pension for Presiding Officers of the National Assembly was rejected after members voted .
