COLE Palmer has sealed a move to Chelsea from Manchester City, becoming the 12th signing of a remarkably busy summer for the Blues.
The club confirmed the young forward’s arrival today, the deadline day for transfers in most of Europe, taking their spending spree this window to over £400 million.
The deal is believed to be worth around £40m for a player yet to be established in Manchester City’s first team.
“Chelsea is pleased to announce the signing of England Under-21 international Cole Palmer from Manchester City,” the London club announced on their official website today.
“Palmer has signed a seven-year contract – with a club option of a further year – at Stamford Bridge and will join up with Mauricio Pochettino’s squad ahead of our Premier League fixture with Nottingham Forest.”
Palmer, who only broke through to City’s senior squad last season, said he was delighted to join Chelsea.
“I’m excited to get started and it feels great to sign,” he said.
“I’ve joined Chelsea because the project here sounds good and because of the platform I will have to try to showcase my talents. It is a young and hungry squad and, hopefully, we can do something special here.”
Palmer, 21, joins a long list of new Chelsea recruits, including Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkuku, Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson and Leslie Ugochukwu.
Other new arrivals at Stamford Bridge are Djordje Petrovic, Deivid Washington, Angelo and Malo Gusto.
Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said of Palmer: “Cole arrives with experience of winning the Premier League and Champions League and adds further quality and versatility to our attacking unit.
“He has showcased his talent and potential in the most challenging environments and delivered on the international stage for England this summer at the European Under-21 Championships. He is undoubtedly ready for this next step and we are delighted it will be with Chelsea.”
On Instagram, Palmer wrote: “When one chapter ends another one begins. Delighted to have signed for #Chelsea. Thank you to my family and friends for the continued support… Can’t wait to meet everyone and create some special memories. See you all soon.”
