AVM Sikiru Smith regains freedom from kidnappers

Air Vice-Marshal Sikiru Oladimeji Smith has been released. Eko Club, an organisation to which he belongs to was first to announce his freedom.

Recall that Lagospost published that AVM Smith was abducted on 27 September in Lekki Lagos.

According to a statement by Prince Mobolaji Ajasa-Oluwa, the social secretary of the Eko club: “The President, Hon. (Barr.) Taju Jaiye Agoro GCHB and the Executive Committee of Eko Club announce with joy to all well-meaning members of Eko Club that offered sincere and earnest prayers for the release of one of our members Air Vice Marshal Sikiru Oladimeji Smith M/N 1246 who was recently kidnapped by gunmen that he has been released.

“We thank Almighty Allah SWT for answering our prayers and appreciate all our blessed members for the prayers and efforts”, Ajasa-Oluwa said.

Lagos Commissioners of Police Hakeem Odumosu said AVM Smith regained freedom in the early hours of Saturday. Saying that he handed over Smith to his family.

According to Odumosu, continued operational activity along the Lagos border corridors and the recent attack on kidnappers in the forest resulted in the release of the AVM Smith.

Smith was abducted by masked gunmen who put him in a boat that sped away from the construction site near Blenco Mall, Ajah, where he supervised work in the area.

The retired AVM is a cousin of the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith, a former Inspector General of Police.

As a military engineer, he held various positions prior to his retirement, including Chief of Logistics, Nigerian Air Force Headquarters and Chief of Defense Communications, Defense Headquarters, Abuja.
