THE Super Eagles will be looking to put up a dominant display when they face Rwanda today in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Kigali, according to Ademola Lookman.

The Atalanta forward is one of several stars in the Nigeria squad as they seek to turn around their fortunes in the qualifying race, beginning with today’s fixture, which kicks off at 5pm Nigerian time.

“The team is looking forward to the game, looking to go out there and to work hard and impose ourselves on the game,” the reigning African Player of the Year said in an interview on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) media team.

The Amavubi of Rwanda are surprise leaders of African qualifying Group C group with seven points, four ahead of the disappointing Super Eagles, who are fifth.

“Rwanda is a good team, we know about their quality and at the end of the day we need to focus on ourselves and try to bring the game to them to fight to get the win,” Lookman added.

Lookman asserted that the stars in the Super Eagles squad are pulling in the same direction, with the World Cup ticket their only aim.

“Everybody knows the level of players that we have, it’s an incredible group of players and most importantly everybody is a good person and has same objective which is to try to win and that’s very important,” he said.

“The group is very together, very tight knitted so that’s a winning formula. Everybody’s positive, we’ve had two good training sessions and as a team we are looking forward to Friday’s game and looking forward to putting on a great performance.”

On being crowned African Player of the Year, former Everton and Leicester star Lookman said: “It’s a blessing, it’s a pleasure, it’s an honour. My brother Osimhen won the award and to win it is a blessing. It’s something I hold with great respect and great honour and I hold it deeply.”
