Mourinho frustrated as Newcastle snatch point at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho walked away from the sidelines and into the dressing rooms in disgust before the final whistle of his side’s Premier League fixture against Newcastle United on Sunday. Visitors Newcastle were awarded a penalty in second-half added time after Eric Dier was adjudged to have handled the box, handing them a 1-1 draw against a dominant Tottenham. Lucas Moura gave the hosts an early lead, sweeping home from the back post a low cross from Harry Kane. It was Kane’s fifth Premier League assist of the season. Tottenham continued to dominate throughout the first half and had several chances to add to their lead, but those opportunities were missed. Newcastle hung on throughout the second half until four minutes into added time when they were presented with a golden opportunity. A long ball was played in which substitute Andy Carroll headed onto Dier’s outstretched hand. After VAR checks, the referee awarded Newcastle a penalty and Callum Wilson kept his cool to score. Afterwards, a clearly frustrated Mourinho refused to comment on the penalty incident, apparently not keen on a fine from the Football Association. “We had a very good performance,” Mourinho said in his post-match interview. “It should have been 3-0, 4-0 but their goalkeeper was fantastic. We tried to keep them away from the Tottenham box in the second half. I won’t comment on it (the penalty incident). The game is finished. I don’t want to give money to FA, I’d rather give my money to charity.”
