WOMEN’S top seed Simona Halep, who lost to Amanda Anisimova in the French Open quarter-finals last year, got her revenge with a 6-0, 6-1 over the American teenager in the third round on Friday.
The 29-year-old Romanian committed just seven unforced errors throughout the match and broke her opponent’s serve six times.
“I think I played a really good match. I was very aggressive. I knew from last year I had to change something, so I really wanted to be better than last year and definitely I was today,” said Halep, who is the world No.2.
“It’s nice to win matches here at Roland-Garros and I’m really enjoying my time.”
Halep, the 2018 champion in Paris, takes on another familiar face from her campaign last year – Polish teenager Iga Swiatek, whom she beat in the fourth round here in 2019.
Also on Friday, on the Court Philippe-Chatrier, Dominic Thiem extended his winning streak to 10 consecutive matches thanks to a 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Norwegian Casper Ruud in the Roland-Garros 2020 third round.
