ISN’T it strange that economic activities are grounded because of the Ondo State governorship election? At a time all hands should be on the deck for economic revival due to the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the global economy, the Lagos-Benin expressway has been closed and travellers are stranded.
This road is a major link to the eastern and northern states through Edo State and it is unhelpful to stop movement on the road because of the election holding in Ondo State.
“My manager is on the way to Benin to deliver eggs and they are stuck in Ondo,” lamented an agric entrepreneur and poultry farmer based in Lagos. “They could easily have blocked off the access points to the expressway and let normal travellers continue their journey,” he added. “This is not nice at all; they are still held up till this time. They should have made an announcement and people would have postponed their trips.”
We can do better than this as we plan for future elections.
