THE Super Eagles have slipped in the FIFA ranking after their poor results in October’s friendly matches, Naija Times reports.
The Nigerian team lost 1-0 to Algeria and drew 1-1 with Tunisia in two high-profile matches in Austria, which apparently affected their position in the ranking.
In the latest ranking released by FIFA on Thursday, the Super Eagles dropped from 29th in the world to 32nd.
They also lost five ranking points; they are now on 1488 from the 1493 they had in September.
Nigeria are now fourth in Africa, down from their third position in September.
Algeria jumped ahead of Nigeria to joint-30th in the world and third in Africa, up five places from September’s 35th, while Tunisia remain 26th in the world and second in Africa.
Sierra Leone, who Nigeria meet in November’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualification double-header, dropped one spot to 120th in the world.
The Leone Stars are 31st in Africa.
Senegal remain the top ranked team in Africa, 21st in the world.
According to FIFA, 120 international matches were played in October, all of which had an impact on the ranking.
Belgium are still world No.1 despite their UEFA Nations League defeat to England. France are second, Brazil third.
The biggest movers Malta who jumped six places to 180th in the world.
