CHELSEA manager Frank Lampard and Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola have different views about how this season’s English Premier League race might pan out.
While Lampard believes it is too early to call a race at the moment, Guardiola is already certain it will be different from last season which Liverpool dominated.
“There has been an uncertainty within life and within the game which has brought about an unpredictability which have seen in the early stage of the season,” Lampard told reporters during his press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
He was asked if this season’s race would be different from the last campaign when Liverpool finished 18 points clear of second-placed City, and 33 points better off than third-placed United.
“We can only focus on ourselves and what we can possibly do, we have belief in ourselves.
“We will see how things level out over the season. It is fair too early to commit to what might be different or not.”
Guardiola, however, having seen his side, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United all drop points this early in the season, believes no team is favourite for the title.
“It looks like it’s going to be open title race,” the Spaniard told his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture at West Ham.
“There are results not expected but the situation we are in around the world – not just in this training centre, in our normal lives, is taking an influence in the game,” Guardiola said.
“We’ve played four/five games, it’s not much.”
