Uzoho ‘back stronger’ after one year absence

SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho celebrated his return to action on Wednesday after being unable to play for over one year.

The Apoel Nicosia goalkeeper had been out since October 2019 after suffering a serious knee injury on international duty.

The long-term injury prevented him from playing the rest of the season in Cyprus and also stopped him from featuring for the Super Eagles.

He returned recently as an unused substitute for Apoel Nicosia in three games in October. 

He was on the bench in league fixtures against Ermis Aradippou on 4 October (a 0-0 draw), Pafos FC on 18 October (a 1-0 home defeat) and Anorthosis on 25 October (a 2-0 away loss).

He finally got on the pitch on Wednesday in a cup game and had a solid outing.

The 22-year-old kept a clean sheet as his side defeated PAEEK 4-0 to advance in the Cyprus Cup.

“After 380 days here I’m back stronger,” an elated Uzoho tweeted in celebration on Wednesday night.

“IN CHRIST ALONE.”

Uzoho made his Super  Eagles debut in November 2017 and has 16 caps, keeping five clean sheets.

His last game for the Super Eagles was the friendly against Brazil in October 2019 when he got the knee injury and had to be replaced in the 63rd minute.
