LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Virgil van Dijk underwent a successful surgery but ruled out Fabinho from Saturday’s Premier League clash with West Ham United at Anfield.
Van Dijk has been out since suffering ligament damage after a dangerous tackle by Jordan Pickford during the Premier League match against neighbours Everton.
The Dutchman will be out for months, but Klopp sees the surgery as a good sign.
“The surgery was successful, which is really good, the best news we could get,” Klopp said during his pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the West Ham tie.
“This time (after an operation) is always unpleasant. He is good as good as can be.”
Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has filled in for Van Dijk but he also got injured in the UEFA Champions League clas with FC Midtjylland in midweek.
“Fab is not in, he has a little injury,” Klopp said.
“He’s out for the weekend and slightly longer but all the others are in contention.”
Champions Liverpool are second in the Premier League table with 13 points from six matches, while West Ham, who are unbeaten in four games, are 12th with eight points also from six games.
