A NIGERIEN helicopter has been allegedly gunned down by suspected Boko Haram fighters in Borno state.
All the five passengers in the helicopter reportedly died in the incident.
The helicopter, in what looked like a reconnaissance mission, was said siaaid to be hovering around the hideout of the insurgents when it was sighted and gunned down.
“The helicopter was said to be hovering around the Banki area around the Bama axis and it was shut down by the insurgents. The five occupants all perished,” a source said.
The incident was said to have occurred in the morning of Tuesday (today)
There have been reported incursion of Nigeriens into the Nigerian shores particularly in the northeastern part of the country. The insurgents are believed to have been recruiting some of the foot soldiers from the neighbouring country, Niger.
The Nigeria Army has yet to make a statement concerning the incident.
