Suarez, Elneny test positive for COVID-19 on national team duty

ATLETICO Madrid striker Luis Suarez and Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny have both tested positive for COVID-19 while on international duty with Uruguay and Egypt respectively.

The Uruguay FA announced that Suarez tested positive for the virus on Monday night and he will miss the World Cup qualifier against Brazil on Tuesday night.

Suarez will also most likely miss Atletico Madrid’s heavyweight LaLiga clash against his former club Barcelona billed for Saturday.

For Elneny, the Egyptian Football Association announced his positive test also on Monday night.

They revealed that the 28-year-old is not showing any symptoms but tested positive when the Egyptian team arrived in Togo for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.

Elneny’s Egypt team-mate, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, also tested positive for the highly contagious virus on Friday.

The midfielder returned to Cairo and will be tested again but he is likely to be unavailable for Arsenal’s Premier League fixture at Leeds on Sunday and the UEFA Europa League clash against Molde on 26 November.
