Rodgers: Ndidi progressing well, could return next week

LEICESTER City manager Brendan Rodgers has given a positive update on Wilfred Ndidi’s recovery, saying he expects the Nigerian to return to action soon.

Ndidi has been unavailable since September, missing several Leicester City games as well as Super Eagles fixtures against Algeria, Tunisia and Sierra Leone in October and November.

The midfielder is recovering from an adductor injury and is one of three long-term absentees Rodgers is hopeful will return to action soon after rejoining his teammates in training.Ndidi, Timothy Castagne (hamstring) and Çağlar Söyüncü (adductor) were left back in England as the Foxes travelled to Portugal for Thursday’s UEFA Europa League tie with SC Braga.

Rodgers said the three players will continue to be assessed and could become available soon.

“So they are progressing really well, but none of them are here to play,” Rodgers told Leicester City’s official website in Portugal.

“With the players we’ve got coming back, the squad is competitive and that’s what you need.

“Timothy [Castagne] hasn’t travelled so we’re just monitoring him over the course of this week and we’ll see where he’s at for the game next Monday (versus Fulham).

“Wilf (Wilfred Ndidi) is progressing really, really well so we’ll see the possibility of him when we play in the Ukraine, so that’ll be great news.”And then Çağs (Çağlar Söyüncü) as well, a little bit further down the line with him, but we’ll see where he’s at in the next few weeks.

“So they are progressing really well, but none of them are here to play. With the players we’ve got coming back, the squad is competitive and that’s what you need.”

Ndidi’s last game for Leicester City was the Premier League fixture against Burnley on 20 September and he has now missed 11 matches for his club.

The game in Ukraine which Rodgers refers to is the Europa League fixture against Zorya next Thursday.
