NIGER: Niger govt appeals to political appointees, civil servants over salary cut

NIGERH State Government has called for the understanding of the state civil servants and political appointees over salary reduction from the month of November.

The government, which attributed the development to the short fall from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) as well as Internally Generated Revenue IGR of the State, described the situation as “unfortunate”

The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the chief press secretary to the governor of Niger State, Mary Noel-Berje.

The statement stated that, “The governor noted that he is not unaware that a labourer deserves his full wage hence his administration will expedite actions towards thinking outside the box on ways to improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state so as to complement whatever is coming from the FAAC.”

It added that, “it is in line with this, that he recently assented to the Consolidated Revenue Law passed by the Niger State House of Assembly.”

The statement, however, noted that governor and his deputy are not exempted from the salary reduction.
