Rodgers: Ndidi’s return important for Leicester City

LEICESTER City manager Brendan Rodgers has described the return of Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi from injury as a welcome boost for the club.Ndidi made his first appearance since September on Thursday night in a 1-0 UEFA Europa League defeat to Zorya in Ukraine, playing for 56 minutes.

Rodgers was happy with the Super Eagles star’s performance and is looking forward to more from him after his recovery from an adductor injury.

“It was very important,” Rodgers told Leicester City’s official website referring to Ndidi’s return. 

“Wilf’s come through it fine, he didn’t look like he’d been away in all honesty. His physicality is very important for our team, so that was good for him to get 55 minutes.”

Along with Ndidi, other key players are also approaching full fitness as Leicester City face the gruelling December schedule.

Rodgers added: “We’ve had some really good news as Daniel Amartey’s come back in and trained with the team today, which is great news for us.

“He’d worked so hard to come back from his injury and then he was outstanding in his games and, unfortunately, he got injured in the West Ham game.

“He’s come back really well, he looked strong in training and we’ll hopefully build him up over the next weeks as well.

“For Wes (Morgan), it’s just been an ongoing issue that he’s had. He’s had it over the last number of years, but of course, as you get that little bit older, it tends to stiffen up that bit quicker.

“He just needs those few days rest and recovery and then we’ll take a look at that.”

Ndidi, whose last Premier League appearance was the Premier League win over Burnley on 20 September, is in contention to feature against Sheffield United on Sunday.
