Balotelli seals move to second-tier Monza

FORMER Liverpool and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has been officially unveiled by Italian second division club Monza.

The club announced the signing on Monday evening, stating that he signed a short-term deal.

“Monza welcomes Mario Balotelli, who signed a contract until 30/6/2021,” the club stated on their official website.

“The striker number is the active Italian player who has the most goals with the national team, 14, in 36 appearances. He also scored the decisive goal in Italy’s last victory at the World Cup, Italy-England 2-1 on June 14, 2014.

“He boasts 141 appearances with 52 goals in Serie A, and 36 Champions League matches with 10 goals.”

Balotelli, 30, was tipped for greatness when he started out as a 17-year-old at Inter Milan but disciplinary problems have dogged his topsy turvy career.

He left Inter Milan for Manchester City in 2010 after winning Serie A and Champions League titles with the Italian giants.

He also won the Premier League title with City in his three season there, during which he scored 30 goals in 80 appearances.

Between 2013 and now, Balotelli has played for AC Milan, Nice, Marseille and Brescia as he constantly fell out with his employers.

He was released by Brescia at the end of the 2019/2020 season after scoring five goals in 19 matches as they got relegated from Serie A. 

Monza are ninth in the 20-team Serie B table with 14 points from 10 matches.
