CHELSEA’s forgotten man Danny Drinkwater has left the club for a temporary spell in Turkey.
The 30-year-old midfielder has joined Kasimpasa on a short-term loan deal, the Turkish Super Lig club announced on Monday.
“English midfielder Daniel Noel Drinkwater, wearing the jersey of Chelsea, one of the England Premier League teams, signed a contract that connects him to Kasimpasa on loan until the end of the season,” Kasimpasa stated on their official website.
“The signing ceremony was held at our Kemerburgaz Facilities, where our Sports Director Emir Saraç was also present after the health checks he spent at our health sponsor Liv Hospital.”
Drinkwater was a key player for Leicester City when they won their shock Premier League title in the 2015/2016 season.
He formed a brilliant midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante, who also later joined Chelsea.
However, while Kante has thrived at Stamford Bridge, Drinkwater’s stock has fallen and it has been made to him that he has no future at Chelsea.
Drinkwater, who played for Manchester United at youth level, joined Chelsea in August 2017 and made just 23 appearances for the Blues all through his stay.
He was loaned to Burnley in 2019 and to Aston Villa for half a season in 2020.
Kasimpasa was also home to Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo on loan in 2015.
