US: Trumps arrive at Andrews Air Base

THE helicopter carrying the Trumps has arrived at Andrews Air base in Maryland.

The president is due to address supporters before flying to Florida.

In brief remarks to reporters before boarding Marine One, President Trump said the White House was the greatest home in the world.

“We’ve had an amazing four years and we’ve accomplished a lot,” Trump said.

“We love the American people and it has been something very special,” he added.

“This has been an incredible four years.”

Trump has invited his wife Melania to say a few words.

“Being your first lady was my greatest honor. Thank you for your love and your support. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all. God bless your families. And God bless this beautiful nation. Thank you,” she said.

In a farewell address at Joint Base Andrews, met with cheers from supporters, the president said people have “no idea how hard” his family had worked during his four years in office.

“What we’ve done has been amazing by any standard,” he said, before pointing to changes he made to the US military.

The president is listing what he sees as the greatest achievements of his time in office.

“I hope they don’t raise your taxes, but if they do – I told you so!” he says.

Considering these are his last remarks as president, Trump seems quite lively and positive here in his delivery – contrary to US media reports that he has been seething for days.

“We’ve left it all on the field,” he says, to cheers from his supporters.

He’s trying to rouse his followers and make it a moment of celebration rather than gloom.

“You are amazing,” he tells them, to more applause.
