OYO: IGP orders arrest of Yoruba ‘nation’ activist, Sunday Igboho

THE Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as “Sunday Igboho” over the notice to quit issued to herdsmen in Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government, Oyo State.

The BBC reported the Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba, to have confirmed the arrest order on Friday.

Shehu disclosed that he was informed by the IGP that the new Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, had been directed to arrest Sunday Igboho and transfer him to Abuja.

Igboho had fingered the Fulani herdsmen in Igangan for the incessant kidnappings and killings in the community.

He gave the herdsmen seven days to leave the community last Saturday.

Igboho went back to the community on Friday after the expiration of the ultimatum and insisted that the Seriki Fulani in Igangan must vacate the community.

The house of the Fulani was reportedly set ablaze hours after Sunday Igboho left Igangan.

Igboho outbursts have generated tensions in the state.

Meanwhile, Governor Seyi has dissociated himself from the eviction order issued by Sunday Adeyemo adding that the Fulani herdsmen are not the enemies in the state.

He instructed the police to arrest and treat like criminal anyone stoking the embers of ethnic crisis in Oyo State.

“For people stoking ethnic tension, they are criminals and once you get them, they should be arrested and treated like common criminals,” the governor had told the police commissioner.
