NPFL: Rivers United go top, Enyimba win, Sunshine stun Rangers

RIVERS United shot to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table on Sunday with a 1-0 home win over Adamawa United.

Fortune Omoniwari’s 53rd minute strike settled the matchday 7 tie as Rivers United took their points tally to 15 points from seven matches.

Enyimba rose to second place, level on points with Rivers United, with their own 1-0 home win over Katsina United in Aba.

Tosin Omoyele scored the People’s Elephant’s only goal on the stroke of half-time.

Incidentally, Rivers United and Enyimba will face each other for a spot in the group phase of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Sunshine Stars are up to fourth place after a stunning 3-1 home win over Enugu Rangers.

Sadeeq Yusuf gave Sunshine the lead after 24 minutes and Fuad Ekelojuoti made it 2-0 10 minutes later.

Godspower Anefiok pulled one back for the Enugu giants in the 59th minute, but Chinedu Udechukwu’s 63rd minute strike made sure of the points for Sunshine Stars.

Jigawa Golden Stars continued their climb out of trouble by piling more misery on Heartland with a comeback 2-1 win.

All the goals came in a frantic final 10 minutes, Heartland’s Bright Onyekachi opening the scoring in the 82nd minute.

Saidu Abdullahi equalised two minutes later, before Samuel Stone completed the fightback with the winning goal in the 89th minute.

In other NPFL fixtures on Sunday, MFM played 0-0 at home to Kwara United, the same as Lobi Stars at home to Abia Warriors, while Dakkada defeated Warri Wolves 2-0.
