EGYPT forward Mohamed Salah scored twice on Sunday as Liverpool defeat West Ham 3-1 at the London Stadium.
It was the first time in seven Premier League games that Salah would be scoring, and his goals, as well as Georginio Wijnaldum’s late goal, helped Liverpool up to third place in the table.
Craig Dawson scored a late consolation goal for battling West Ham, who lost for the first time in 2021.
After a goalless first half, Salah got Liverpool on their way with a brilliant finish in the 57th minute, curling into the top corner from a Curtis Jones assist.
The Egyptian then made it 2-0 11 minutes later, superbly controlling a long ball on the counterattack and striking home with aplomb.
He took his Premier League goals tally to 15 fir the season, making him the top scorer.
Roberto Firmino, who had been unexpectedly left out of the starting line-up, came off the bench to set up the third Liverpool goal.
The Brazil forward gave a short pass to Wijnaldum in the West Ham box and the Dutchman made no mistake from close range in the 84th minute.
Centre-back Dawson scored for West Ham from a corner, poking the ball into the net after it found its way to him in a crowded box in the 87th minute.
Liverpool are third with 40 points, four off leaders Manchester City who they face next Sunday at Anfield.
West Ham are fifth with 35 points.
