Fani-Kayode’s antecedent as APC’s critic may work against his defection — Buhari’s aide

An AIDE  to President Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has said the antecedent of former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, as a habitual critic of the Buhari administration and by extension the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be a hindrance to his seamless defection to the ruling party.

Bashir noted that the majority of members of the ruling APC  may not welcome Fani-Kayode  with open arms if he decides to join the party.

The former had yesterday met with the National Chairman of the APC, Governor Mai Buni of Yobe State and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and couple of party stalwarts.

Pictures from the meeting had sprked deluge of reactions from commentators that Fani-Kayode, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, was on the verge of jumping ship to the APC.

But Bashir in his reaction, said defecting from the People’s Democratic Party to the APC would not be one devoid of debates following the former minister’s avowed disposition to the APC.

“If he decides to join the governing party, I don’t think he will be welcomed by the majority of the party members whom he made it a duty to attack and insult for several years,” Ahmad said on his official Twitter handle.

Meanwhile, Fani-Kayode has said his meeting with the APC leaders was to discuss the “state of the nation, national issues, party politics and the way forward.”

He also said that he’s in talks with the leaders of other political parties asides the ruling APC.

A statement he issued on Monday partly read, “These meetings are wide-ranging and ongoing and I am delighted to be involved in them. Despite the obvious benefits and wisdom in this noble initiative, it amazes me that some people should feel that it is wrong for me to sit with other leaders in the country to discuss issues which touch and concern the national cohesion, future and stability of our country. This is a time in which we must set all our differences aside, build bridges and come together as one lest our country drifts into fratricidal butchery and civil war.”
