THE Rivers State government has lifted its two football clubs with new buses and ambulances to aid their pursuit of honours in the competitions they are participating in.
Governor Nyesom Wike presented River United, the men’s club, and Rivers Angels, the women’s club, with a bus each on Thursday.
Rivers United are currently second in the Nigeria Professional Football League and in the playoffs round of the CAF Confederation Cup, while Rivers Angels are one of the biggest clubs in the Nigeria Women’s Football League.
At a ceremony held at the Rivers State Government House on Thursday, Rivers United were presented with an air-conditioned 54-seater luxury bus fitted with convenience and other accessories, while Rivers Angels received an air-conditioned 25-seater Coaster bus.
The two clubs’ supporters were also given a Coaster bus each, with two ambulances also handed over to the teams.
Governor Wike also promised players and officials of Rivers United the sum of N20 million if they beat Enyimba in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup playoff tie in Aba on Sunday.
The winners of the tie over two legs will advance to the group stages of the continental competition.
Both Rivers United and Rivers Angels will also receive N10 million for every away win in the ongoing NPFL and NWFL.
