Comedian, ‘Mr. Macaroni’, bemoans ethnic clashes, blames govt for insecurity

ACE comedian turned activist, Debo Adebayo, better known as ‘Mr Macaroni’, has urged Nigerians to be united, regardless of their ethnic groups, to fight their common oppressor which he identified as the government.

Adebayo, while expressing concern over the spate of ethnic clashes rocking the Southwestern part of the country, expressed his position on the issue hours after he was released by the police for protesting against the reopening of the Lekki tollgate.

Though he didn’t mention it in his post, Adebayo’s comment may not be unconnected with the reported clash between some Hausa traders and Yoruba at the Shasha Market area of Ibadan, Oyo State,

Three persons were reportedly killed as a result of the clash with shops and property torched by hoodlums, who reportedly took advantage of the incident to inflict pain on people.

The Oyo State government has since shut the market and imposed curfew on Shasha area of Ibadan.

Reacting to reports of ethnic clashes via his Tweeter handle, Adebayo (Macaroni) said, “The Hausa man is my brother, so is the Igbo man and the Yoruba man. We are all one.

“The government and the government alone is responsible for any insecurity in Nigeria and it is their duty to protect all Nigerians. I plead for peace. We will come back to my matter later.”
