ANOTHER ethnic crisis may have started brewing in the state again barely three weeks after the Shasha Market mayhem.

This is following the reported killing of two persons  at the famous Aba Abugudu Market in the Atisbo Local Government Area of of the state.

The killing was said to be as a result of the fight which broke out between Fulani and Yoruba transacting businesses in the market.

Two members of the Oyo State Security Network Agency known as Amotekun and a vigilante, trying to mediate peace between the “warring” parties, were also  injured.

The cause of the fight was still sketchy as of the time of filing this report.

While explaining how the Amotekun men were attacked, a source said in the course of settling issues for the parties involved in the fight,  a Fulani man drew out his cutlass and attacked the three security agents, inflicting varying degrees of injuries on them.

The names of the injured Amotekun men were given as Michael Oguntade and Yekini Tijani, while the vigilante who was also reportedly injured and the two Amotekun were said to have been rushed to hospital where they are still being treated.

Speaking, the Commandant of Amotekun Corps in Oyo State, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (retd), confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone on Wednesday.

However, Amotekun commandant said, “Our men, who were attacked, are still in the hospital.

“Fulani man and Yoruba were engaged in a fight at the Aba Agudugu Market. There were two Amotekun corps there and some vigilantes. Our men, (Amotekun) were trying to break the fight.

“One of the Fulani men was said to have attacked our men with a cutlass on the head, he attacked the other one on his hand. Those attacked were rushed to hospital, but those fighting still continued with their fight.

“The police were said to have recovered two corpses but I don’t know who was killed. The police are in better position to know.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed that three persons were injured, including two Amotekun.

He said two Amotekun men and other other person were injured.

He said, “Three persons sustained injury. Two Amotekun personnel and one other. The DPO Tede led patrol team swiftly to the scene and took the injured to the hospital for treatment. Investigation intensified.”

This was happened while some eminent Nigerians, led by Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, were trying to prevailed on Northern traders to end their food blockage to South.

The association of Northern traders had embarked on the food blockade to register their grievances against what they described as “unfair” treatment from Southerners.

They particularly mentioned the crisis in Shasha Market in Ibadan among others.

They have since ended the blockade.
