THE Socio-Economic Rights And Accountability Project has urged the Federal Government to display transparency and accountability in its spending of the fund set aside for vaccinating Nigerians against Covid-19 across the country.
The rights group said this following the Federal Government declaration in December 2020 that N400 billion would be needed for the vaccination exercise.
Giving the breakdown of the fund the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, noted that it budgeted the sum of N10.6bn to transport the Covid-19 vaccine to the 36 states and the 774 local government areas as well as the Federal Capital Territory and the five area councils of Nigeria.
Suggesting how transparency can be ensured in the exercise SERAP advised the Federal Government to publish details of how the fund was used.
In a tweet, the organisation said, “COVID-19: Spending of N400bn to vaccinate Nigerians and N10.6bn on transportation is a public interest issue. It’s a transparency and accountability issue. It’s a human rights issue. It’s a public health issue. Federal Government @NigeriaGov: Publish details including online.”
