DRIVERS of tankers and other articulated vehicles blocked the Benin-Ore road yesterday following the alleged killing of two of their colleagues by herdsmen the previous day.
It was learnt that the incident happened near Ofosu, the boundary community between Edo and Ondo states.
The development was said to have caused heavy gridlock as motorists and commuters were stranded for several hours on the busy road.
The hoodlums, believed to be herdsmen, were said to have blocked the road during a robbery operation on Tuesday night.
They eventually killed two drivers and made away with an undisclosed amount of money from the victims of their attacks.
The angry drivers, who blocked the highway at a military checkpoint in Ofosu, rejected all entreaties by other motorists to vacate the road.
Following the incident, operatives at the military checkpoint abandoned their posts due to the chaotic atmosphere, while the angry drivers said they would not leave the road until Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, addressed them.
