KADUNA: Gunmen storm school, kidnap dozens of female students

GUNMEN, suspected to be kidnappers, have reportedly abducted dozens from Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Birnin Gwari LGA of the state.

The abduction, it was gathered, happened in the early hours of today. It was said to be selective as schoolboys were deliberately spared by the gunmen.

The school is less than 15 kilometers to the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.

The spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command, Mohammed Jalige, has since confirmed the report.

He added that efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted girls.

Jalige said, “The gunmen stormed the school around 3 am, and abducted a couple of the students. The police has deployed its operatives in the bush to trace them”.

The abduction came less than 48 hours after the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan presented the 2020 security situation reports to the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

In that report, the commissioner had said bandits killed no fewer than 937 persons, kidnapped 1,972 persons, and rustled 7,195 cattle in the state in 2020.
Governor El-Rufai has insisted he won’t enter into peace talks with bandits or grant amnesty to them.

He said they are criminals and anyone caught would be killed.
