PM gets AstraZeneca jab as UK breaks daily jab record with more than 660,000 vaccine doses administered

THE U.K prime minister has had his first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the hospital that saved his life when he had COVID.

Speaking afterwards Boris Johnson, 55, said: “I cannot recommend it too highly”.

He added: “I had a wonderful nurse named Lilly… I literally didn’t feel a thing, it was very good, very quick.

“Everybody when you do get a notification to go for a jab, please do go and get it. It’s the best thing for you, your family and everybody else.”

Speaking to those who may be nervous about reports of blood clots he said: “Don’t just listen to me, listen to all the scientists, listen to what the European Medicines Agency had to say yesterday, to what the MHRA has said. The risk is COVID – this is a great thing to do.”

He had the jab at St Thomas’ Hospital, where he spent three nights in intensive care last April.

A record-breaking total of 660,276 doses were administered nationwide on Thursday. This includes 528,260 first jabs and 132,016 second doses.

The figures are higher than the previous record, set on 30 January, when 609,010 vaccines were administered, including 598,389 first doses and 10,621 second doses.

It means that 26,263,732 people have now had a first dose and 2,011,070 have had a second dose.
