EKITI: Purveyors of violence will be brought to book, says Fayemi

GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi has condemned the killing of innocent people by unknown thugs during the Ekiti East consistency I bye-election yesterday.

Fayemi, who vowed to bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book, said his administration will uphold the sacredness of life and sanctity of the electoral process.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary,  Yinka Oyebode, yesterday.

Fayemi said, “This violence is most unwarranted and deeply disturbing. I have instructed the police authorities to fish out the perpetrators and ensure they face the music.

“Our condolences to the families that lost loved ones and those who were injured. Government would not relent in efforts to always ensure safety of lives and properties. We shall ensure all purveyors of violence are brought to book.” he added.

At least three people were reported to have been killed while five sustained varying degrees of injury when  violence broke out during the bye-election.

The development forced the the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to suspend the exercise.

The bye-election was organised to fill the Ekiti East constituency I seat, following the death of Juwa Adegbuyi, the former representative.

The governor demanded the arrest of perpetrators of the violence, noting that those involved will not go unpunished.

The Ekiti governor commiserated with the families of those who died during the violence.
