A NIGERIAN, Dapo Bankole, has swollen the ranks of Nigerians abroad doing the country proud as he was recently appointed as a member of the board of directors of Canada’s Windmill Microlending.
The organisation described Bankole’s appointment as “historic” during its announcement of the Nigerian into its board of directors.
Windmill Microlending, a registered charity that has been serving newcomers since 2005 added that it anticipates a greater result-oriented future with the Nigerian at the helms of affairs.
While welcoming him, the organisation said: “Windmill is thrilled to welcome Dapo Bankole, Founder and President of Mopheth Systems Corp., to our Board of Directors. It’s a historic moment for our organization to be adding our first alumnus as a director.
“Dapo was a 2013 client of Windmill, and our Board and leadership will be stronger as a result. As a first-generation immigrant and a Windmill alumnus, Dapo brings a deeper perspective of who a first-generation Canadian is and twhat the integration journey looks like.
“He will also enhance our Board with his IT expertise, entrepreneurial spirit, and communication skills as a social innovator, active podcaster, certified coach, speaker, and trainer.”
Nigerians have been making waves across the globe recently, especially since the beginning of the appointment of Geoffrey Onyema as Minister of Foreign Affairs by the Buhari administration.
Some Nigerians abroad recently got appointments into top government positions in global organisations, as well as the United States and United Kingdom (UK).
This includes the reelection of Adesina in 2020 as AfDB president, and the appointment of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as first female and first African director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
In 2019, Boris Johnson, British prime minister, named Kemi Badenoch a minister in his cabinet.
In November 2020, United States President Joe Biden appointed Adewale Adeyemo as deputy secretary of the treasury department.
Biden also appointed Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo into his cabinet as white house counsel, as well as Osaremen Okolo as a member of his Covid-19 response team.
The UK has also nominated Dapo Akande, a British-Nigerian professor, as its candidate for the International Law Commission of the United Nations (UN).
Meanwhile, a look at Bankole’s biography reveals that he is an entrepreneur of note.
Bankole have has built many small businesses in Nigeria, United Arab Emirates, United States, United Kingdom, Canada and the Netherlands.
