Obasanjo condoles with Afenifere leader, Adebanjo, over Odumakin’s death

EX-PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a condolence visit to leader of pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo on the demise of the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Yinka Odumakin.

Obasanjo visited the nonagenarian at his Lagos residence to commiserate with him on the death of Odumakin.

According to his wife, Joe Okei-Odumakin, the Afenifere spokesman, died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Covid Isolation Centre,

Adebanjo had in a tweet described the death of the Afenifere spokesman as “too heavy to bear”.

Odumakin was a staunch critic of the policies and programmes of the Buhari administration.

The deceased activist authored a book titled, ‘Watch the watcher,’ which was his response to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s political memoir, ‘My Watch’.

Speaking on why he wrote the book in his lifetime Odumakin said, “It is a public intellectual duty to set the record straight and to let those who have been in charge of affairs and those who are still in charge of affairs to know that a time has come for us, as victims of their misrule, not to forget.”

Odumakin told his interviewers that Obasanjo’s book could be likened to a situation where a serial rapist would be invited to give a lecture on ‘the evils of rape’, saying that Nigerians have “allowed people to falsify history”.

Odumakin described Obasanjo’s book as “a package of lies”, insisting that the former President has “a selective integrity that when he does a thing, it is right and when other do it, it is wrong”.

“I wonder why Obasanjo only knows the right things when he is not in office. It amazes me when Obasanjo continues to grandstand and move from side to side,” he added.
