Mourinho, Solskjaer in war of words over Son after United beat Spurs

A CLEARLY rattled Jose Mourinho on Sunday night fired back a caustic response to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Manchester United manager called out Son Heung-min for excessive play acting.

The Korea forward had played a major part in getting what would have been Manchester United’s first goal against Tottenham Hotspur disallowed with a bit of theatrics.

Son collapsed to the ground clutching his face after losing the ball to Scott McTominay in midfield and the move eventually ended up in a goal for Edinson Cavani.

However, VAR checks revealed a slight touch on Son’s face as McTominay tried to brush him off.

After taking several looks at the incident, the referee gave a foul to Tottenham and disallowed the goal.

Although United still went on to win 3-1 with goals from Fred, Cavani and Mason Greenwood after Son had given Tottenham the lead, Solskjaer still condemned the Tottenham forward’s action. 

“We shouldn’t be conned,” Solskjaer said during his post-match interview.

“I have to say, if my son stays down for three minutes and he needs his ten mates to help him up, he won’t get any food.”

Although Mourinho was not asked about Solskjaer’s comments when the Tottenham manager was interviewed later, he still brought it up.

“Sonny is very lucky that his father is a better person than Ole,” Mourinho shot back without being prompted.

“Because a father you have always to feed your kids, it doesn’t matter what they do — I have told Ole what I think about his comments.”

United outclassed Tottenham on their own turf in London to remain undefeated away from home in 23 Premier League matches, four games short of Arsenal’s record set between 2003 and 2004.

The result helped consolidate United’s second position in the Premier League table while it left Tottenham well outside the top four positions.
