Lawmaker berates presidential spokesmen for lack of finesse

A LAWMAKER representing Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the lower legislative chamber, Bamidele Salam, has berated the media handlers of the presidency for their utter lack of professionalism in communicating their principals’ thoughts to the general public.

Salam said the media aides oftentimes churn out sloppy and “cheap” statements to address the recent surge in insecurity, hyper-inflation and allied challenges bedeviling the country.

According to the journalist turned legislator, the public responses of the presidential media aides are often inelegant, verbose and disrespectful to the feelings of the generality of peace loving Nigerians.

Salam noted that ”not even the office of a local government Chairman deserves that kind of public communication strategy.”

Though the lawmaker did not mention it, the recent press statements of Femi Adesina and Malam Garba Shehu; both Special Adviser and Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the president have drawn negative reactions from Nigerians.

Many Nigerians are of the opinion that the statements from the presidential spokesmen reek of insults, subtle threats. There are have complaints that the media handlers are condescending in their choice of words.

Since yesterday when the presidency  made it clear that the  Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami won’t be sacked  asking Nigerians to forgive him for his past comments in support of terror groups like Taliban and Al-Qaeda, there have reactions that the press release didn’t show respect for the emotions of Nigerians.
