WATFORD, the club of Nigerian pair William Troost-Ekong and Isaac Success, have been promoted back to the Premier League after a 1-0 win against Millwall on Saturday.
The club were relegated to the Championship last season and Saturday’s home win ensured a swift return to the top flight.
Ismaila Sarr scored the game’s only goal from the penalty spot in the 11th minute.
Super Eagles centre-back Troost-Ekong played a full part in the crucial win, but the injury-prone Success was not in the matchday squad.
Watford were on the verge of promotion last weekend and Saturday’s win took them over the line, as it ensured they will finish at least second in the Championship table to claim one of the two automatic promotion spots.
They are in second place with 88 points from 44 matches, 10 points ahead of third-placed Brentford who have only three matches left.
Norwich, who were also relegated from the Premier League last season, are top of the table with 93 points and have also been promoted.
Troost-Ekong, who joined Watford on a five-year deal from Udinese in September, has played 32 times during the campaign, starting 31 games.
Success, on his part, suffered a long-term Achilles tendon injury and only played his first match of this season in March. He has played only eight times this term.
