MANCHESTER City have won the Carabao Cup yet again, after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in Sunday’s final at the Wembley Stadium.
Joan Laporte scored the only goal of the game to give Pep Guardiola another major trophy since his arrival in England five years ago.
Centre-back Laporte settled a tight game with a powerful header in the 82nd minute from Kevin De Bruyne’s corner kick.
Laporte has thus become just the third French player to score in a League Cup final, after Louis Saha for Manchester United in 2006 and Samir Nasri for Manchester City in 2014.
Tottenham Hotspur, playing under their 29-year-old caretaker manager Ryan Mason who replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho six days ago, put up a brave fight, working hard defensively to contain the quick-passing Manchester City.
Mason, the youngest manager ever to handle a Cup final, threw on Gareth Bale and Dele Alli as his side chased a late equaliser, but it was City who looked like adding another goal.
Manchester City have now won six of the last eight Carabao Cup trophies, taking their total to eight, the most by any club along with Liverpool.
