BENUE: Protest as gunmen attack Abagena IDP camp, kill seven

GUNMEN suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have attacked the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Abagena community in Makurdi Local Government Area, leaving seven persons dead, with many injured

Youth of the community have poured into the Makurd-Lafia road to protest the gruesome murder of their  people.

The protesters reportedly blocked the roads with the dead bodies

Reacting, to the incident, Governor Samuel Ortom described the attack on the IDPs camp as inhuman, barbaric and unacceptable.

Ortom accused the Federal Government of not giving the state enough support in its fight armed militias.

He said that over seventy persons had been killed in Makurdi Local Government alone in the last two weeks.

The governor said communities across the state have not fared any better as they are under unrelieved attacks from militia herdsmen

“If the Federal Government had taken the issue of militia herders seriously, it wouldn’t have escalated to this level,” he said.

This is coming three days after Governor Ortom lamented that the state is overwhelmed by  one million Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs.
