Arsenal stun Chelsea at home, Ronaldo makes history in Juve win

CHELSEA lost the chance to strengthen their top four prospects in the Premier League by losing 1-0 at home to London rivals Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Emile Smith Rowe profited from Jorginho’s error to score his second Premier League goal in as many games to give Arsenal this win.

The only goal of the match came in the 16th minute after a terrible mistake by Jorginho.

The Italy midfielder’s back pass to goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was misdirected but the Spaniard still managed to get a hand to the ball to swat it away from the goal line.

However, the ball fell to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who set up Smith Rowe to score.

Chelsea were dominant from that point on with Mason Mount going close twice and the Blues relentlessly pushing Arsenal back.

Christian Pulisic put the ball in the net for Chelsea on the hour mark but his ‘goal’ was ruled out for offside after a video assistant referee (VAR) review.

Chelsea then went painfully close to equalising in added time as Kurt Zouma’s header hit the bar before Olivier Giroud’s volley also bounced back off the post.

Arsenal held on to take the three points which means they completed the double over Chelsea this season to boost their own chances of ensuring they are playing European football next season, even if it is the new Europa Conference League.

Chelsea remain fourth in the table with 64 points, six ahead of fifth-place West Ham and seven ahead of sixth-place Liverpool, who have two games in hand on Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Arsenal are eighth and just one point behind Tottenham in seventh, having played a game more.

Meanwhile, over in Italy Cristiano Ronaldo made history when his scored his 100th Juventus goal in their 3-1 Serie A win over Sassuolo also on Wednesday night.

The Portugal captain thus became the first player in Europe to score at least 100 goals for three clubs in three different countries.
He scored 118 for Manchester United, 450 for Real Madrid and has now hit the 100 mark at Juventus.
