S’West: Rain disrupts rally for Yoruba Nation in Osogbo

A RALLY demanding for a sovereign Yoruba Nation, yesterday, in Osogbo, Osun State capital was disrupted by a heavy downpour.

The event, held at the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park came to an abrupt end after self-acclaimed activist, Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho, stepped down from the podium.

Speaking at the rally, Igboho demanded the release of operatives of the Oodua Peoples Congress who are being detained for arresting notorious Fulani herder, Iskilu Wakili, in the Ibarapa area of Oyo State.

The venue of the rally was heavy with the presence of policemen, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and men of the Amotekun corps.

Meanwhile, ex-lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, condemned the agitation by the youths under the aegis of Omo Oduduwa United.

Sani, who reacted to the development on his Twitter handle, said yesterday: “The heavy rainfall that dispersed the separatist agitators in Osogbo is a divine message for them to change cause and work for the unity of our country. The idea of an ethnic or religious purist state stems from a xenophobic mind intolerant to co-existence.”
