A SLEW of Nigerian athletes posted impressive performances over the weekend at athletics meets in the United States of America.
Ruth Usoro won gold in the women’s triple jump at the Big 12 Championships in Texas, setting a meet record of 14.06 metres despite rainy conditions and on her first attempt.
She beat Victoria Gorlova to second place (13.45m), while Mikeisha Welcome came third with 13.30m.
Usoro also won the bronze medal with a mark of 6.60m in the women’s long jump event at the Big 12 Championship.
David Olowookere clinched gold in the men’s 400m hurdles with a personal best of 50.81 seconds at the Missouri Valley Championships, breaking his personal best which he set last week.
He has now qualified for the CAA African Athletics Championships.
Olowookere also helped his team to second place in the men’s 4x100m relay with a time of 40.58 seconds.
Ese Brume cane second with a mark of 6.60m in the women’s long jump event at the 2021 American Track League reaching her season’s best.
At the SEC Championships, Favour Ofili finished second in the women’s 200m sprints with a wind-aided 22.16 seconds (+4.1), behind Tamara Clark who won in 21.89 seconds.
At the SEC Championships, Favour Ofili ran 22.16 seconds to claim second place in the women’s 200m event.
She had earlier helped her team to a world leading time of 42.52 seconds to win the women’s 4×100m relay.
