NIGERIA Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick has been appointed as a member of one of Confederation of African Football’s key committees.
The continental governing body announced new members for its standing committees on Tuesday following an executive committee meeting in Kigali, Rwanda over the weekend.
Pinnick, who is a member of football’s highest decision-making organ the FIFA Council, has been appointed into the organising committee for the continent’s highest-profile football competition, the Africa Cup of Nations.
The AFCON Organising Committee will be led by CAF President Patrice Motsepe with the assistance of Pinnick and Augustin Emmanuel Senghor, President of the Senegalese Football Federation.
Following the success of the recent African Nations Championship in Cameroon last January and February, CAF has appointed the Acting FECAFOOT President Seidou Mbombo Njoya to head the CHAN Organising Committee, to be assisted by Uganda FA President Moses Magogo.
Meanwhile, Fouzi Lekjaa continues as the head of the Finance Committee. The decision was approved at the previous Exco Meeting.
Lekjaa, President Moroccan Football Federation and FIFA Council member, will be assisted by Andrew Kamanga, President of the Football Association of Zambia.
Interclub Competitions and the Club License management committee will be led by Ahmed Yahya, who is second CAF Vice-President and Mauritania Football President. Maclean Letshwiti (Bostwana Football association President) and Djibrilla Hamidou Hima (Niger Football Federation President) will assist him as vice-presidents.
The committee manages the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup, the Super Cup as well as the new Women’s Champions League in collaboration with the Organizing Committee for Women’s Football.
The Youth Football Committee will be overseen by the third CAF Vice-President and President of Djibouti Federation Suleiman Waberi.
He will be supported by vice-presidents Pierre Alain Mouguengui (Gabon) and Moustapha Ishola Raji (Liberia).
In the women’s football Organising Committee, Isha Johansen (Sierra Leone) handed over the presidency to Kanizat Ibrahim (Comoros).
However, the SLFA president who is also a member of the FIFA Council, continues as vice-president of the committee.
Augustin Emmanuel Senghor, a lawyer and also first CAF Vice-president, takes charge of the Legal Affairs Committee, while a new president of the Medical Committee has been appointed in Wadie Jary, President of the Tunisian Football Federation.
The position of vice-president is temporarily vacant.
