KELECHI Iheanacho scored a record-setting goal on Tuesday night but it was not enough to prevent his club Leicester City from defeat.

The Super Eagles forward came off the bench to pull one goal back for Leicester City at Stamford Bridge after Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho had given Chelsea a 2-0 lead.

The 2-1 Premier League win for Chelsea in front of over 8,000 fans threw the race for UEFA Champions League spots wide open.

The three points took Chelsea to third place in the table with 67 points, one point and one place above Leicester City with only one game to go.

Liverpool, currently in fifth place, could go above Leicester City on goal difference if the Reds win their game in hand at Burnley on Wednesday night.

Chelsea, who lost the FA Cup final to Leicester on Saturday, were well worth their win on Tuesday night before a vociferous home crowd, dominating and controlling the match as well as scoring two goals that were disallowed for offside and handball, both by Timo Werner in the first half.

They got their deserved lead just two minutes into the second half, Rudiger bundling home from close range following a corner kick.

The hosts continued to be dominant and got the crucial second goal in the 66th minute from the penalty spot.

Jorginho stepped up to score his seventh league penalty of the season after Wesley Fofana fouled the busy Werner in the box.

Iheanacho came on for James Maddison in the 60th minute and gave Leicester City a life 16 minutes later, firing home from his compatriot Wilfred Ndidi’s assist after Chelsea lost the ball on the edge of their box.

Iheanacho became the first player to score on every day of the week in a single Premier League season with that Tuesday goal completing the set.

He has scored 11 Premier League goals since the start of March, the most in the division; three more than any other player.

With Manchester City and Manchester United already securing the first two spots, the final two Champions League places will be decided on Sunday.

Chelsea travel to Aston Villa, Leicester City host Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool are at home to Crystal Palace.
