THE head coach of the Nigerian beach soccer national team, Audu Adamu, is dead.
The late coach’s death was announced on Saturday night by the Nigeria Football Federation on social media.
“We are sad to announce the demise of Super Sand Eagles Coach Audu Adamu Ejo after a brief illness,” the NFF tweeted.
“Late Coach Ejo contributed immensely to the development of Beach Soccer in Nigeria. Our thoughts are with his family and the Football community. May his soul Rest In Peace.”
Adamu was said to have died of complications from dishetes, which be had lived with for some time.
The late coach was in charge of the team for years, leading them to major tournaments.
He was a very popular figure in the beach soccer scene in Nigeria and Africa, having steered the Sand Eagles to successfully qualify for multiple Beach Soccer World Cups.
Adamu also led the Nigerian team to impressive outings in the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.
