Guardiola named Manager of the Year in England, Gerrard honoured

MANCHESTER City coach Pep Guardiola has won the Sir Alex Ferguson trophy for the League Managers Association Manager of the Year.

Legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who the trophy is named after, announced Guardiola as the winner on Monday night.

Guardiola led City to the Premier League title, overcoming a slow start to win with 12 points ahead of second-placed Manchester United.

The Spaniard also led the club to the Carabao Cup final and could compete an impressive treble with the UEFA Champions League trophy after taking City to their first-ever final of the elite competition.

City face Chelsea in the Champions League final on Sunday in Porto, Portugal.

Chelsea Women head coach Emma Hayes won the Women’s Super League Manager of the Year award after leading the London club to win the domestic title and taking them to the Women’s Champions League final where they lost to Barcelona.

In other awards, Norwich City’s Daniel Farke received the Championship Manager of the Year prize for taking the Canaries straight back to the Premier League, Hull City’s Grant McCann got the League One gong, while Michael Duff of Cheltenham Town the League Two honour.

Liverpool legend and Rangers manager received the Special Recognition award for leading the Glasgow club to win the Scottish Premiership title without losing a single match.
