THE University of Lagos has given an assurance that it is ready to host the next Nigerian University Games.
NUGA officials visited the institution during the week and met with the Vice-Chancellor and other members of the local organising committee of the 26th edition of the Games.
A NUGA press release on Saturday explained that the visitation was designed to agree on a suitable date for the event and also to inspect the progress made on the school’s sports facilities.
UNILAG Vice-Chancellor Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe reiterated the institution’s commitment to hosting the country’s university athletes.
The Games are expected to attract over 5,000 students from 85 universities and we’re originally scheduled for 2019 but had to be shifted indefinitely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The facilities inspected were those for athletics, the indoor hall, the swimming pool, the main football pitch being re-grassed and other facilities around the Sports Centre.
The NUGA contingent led by its President, Professor Stephen Hamafyelto, and the Secretary General advised that the UNILAG should not rest on its oars in ensuring that the Games are delivered shortly and that any dates proposed by the institution would be given due consideration.
Meanwhile the University of Lagos will host this year’s International Day of University Sports (IDUS) scheduled for 20 September and the activities will be announced in due course.
